Each download includes company number, company name, company status, incorporation date, SIC industry codes, registered town/city, postcode district (e.g. SW1, M1, B2) and account type.

Where does the data come from?

All data is sourced from the Companies House public register, which is published under the Open Government Licence v3.0. The database is updated regularly from the Companies House register. Companies are legally required to keep their details accurate and up to date; we do not independently verify the data.

What does the Account Type column mean?

Accepted Answer

Accounts type provides an indication for the size of company in question. Below is a directional summary of companies within each account type.
Group — Parent companies filing consolidated accounts. Largest companies, with multiple subsidiaries.
Full — Larger companies required to file complete audited accounts. Typically 50+ employees or turnover over £10.2m.
Medium — Roughly 50–250 employees, turnover between £10.2m–£36m.
Audit-Exemption-Subsidiary / Filing-Exemption-Subsidiary — Subsidiaries covered by a parent guarantee. Size varies but usually part of a larger structure.
Audited-Abridged — Small companies that chose simplified filing but still got audited.
Unaudited-Abridged — Small companies filing a simplified balance sheet. Under 50 employees, turnover under £10.2m.
Total-Exemption-Full — Small companies exempt from audit. Same threshold as above, slightly older filing route.
Small / Total-Exemption-Small — Older small company filing categories, same size range. Largely replaced by the above.
Micro-Entity — The smallest active companies. Under 10 employees, turnover under £632k.
Interim — Accounts for a non-standard period. Not a size indicator.
No-Accounts-Type-Available — No filing on record, usually a very new company.
Dormant — Registered but not trading. No size indicator.
